Any cleaning thing will work, Hoppes is probably most common. It IS important to clean the bore and get anything they left behind.

Being a new modern rifle it might just need a good wipe down, and relube with new products. I would strip it and make sure that their is no heavy preservatives in/on the piston as well as the barrel and sometimes they to tend pack it with cosmo. Maybe a couple passes with a bronze brush and some patches to clear out any preservatives in the bore/barrel.

When I get a new rifle I field strip it, clean off all the factory lubricant, scrub the bore to make sure there are no obstructions and then oil or grease according to the instructions.

I'll do one better since it was in the hand gun section...

Summary yes clean it and break it down together to know your weapon and make sure everything is ok and good to go unless your packet says other wise. Glocks for instance have been said to have break in grease put there for a reason... But other than that I would break it down to familiarize your self with it.

I not only clean it...I disassemble it to get more familiar with it's operation.

I just run some patches and oil thru it. Then shoot.

Yes. And I use cleanzoil which not only cleans it but lubricates (oils) all the individual moving parts. That is critical to preventing wear and tear and making it run right.

only one I didnt completely "clean" was my AK. I cleaned the bore, took a look at all the crap in the receiver and said "good enough"
