    is it legal

Is it legal for an immediate family member to sell a Rifle on my behalf. As in he goes to the FFL and signs the paperwork to sell the gun to someone else (non-family)

    Gun is an AR-15

Maybe with a notarized specific power of attorney?

    Ask an FFL.

      I'm no FFL but...

Rifles can be gifted up or down the "family tree" without an FFL transfer.
If it was a brother, cousin, etc., I believe it would need to be properly transfered through an FFL before they could legally take possession and then sell it.

I think the op was asking about a family member selling the firearm for him or the family member doing the paperwork for his side of the sale. Someone else is buying the gun not family.

I realize that. The reason I mentioned the up and down the family tree was that they would then be the "owner" and thus could sell it as they pleased.

I do not think there is a legal way to do exactly what you say...

            However....

If you gifted it to a parent, and that parent gifted the rifle to your brother... the rifle would legally be your brother's without any official paperwork. He could then take the rifle to an FFL and sell it to someone else.... and then he could legally gift you the proceeds of the sale...
