I just got finished (well almost, stay tuned) putting together two AR-15 rifles for my wife and I. Actually, the local black rifle shop put the parts together, which I have been purchasing piecemeal over the past 4 years. Well, this Johnny Cash scenario went off without a hitch except one thing... I didn't realize that one of the barrels was what they call "mid-length" and required a longer handguard and gas tube. Well, the gas tube was easy enough to replace with a ML, but the handguard is a problem. No one seems to have the OD mid-length in stock. I spent about an hour last night looking. This is the one piece preventing this from being a functioning rifle, and I want to get it up and running in the worst way.
Subsequently I talked to Magpul and it appears those are not being made presently, although they have plans to make more in the future.
I have an option as a temporary measure to get just any old color MOE midlength and slap it in there. But this rifle is for my wife and she is not amused at being stuck with a patchwork, mismatched rifle.
So, in the interest of making the little lady smile and feel good about hitting the range with her new rifle, can anyone help me out with an OD Magpul MOE midlength handguard? Anyone got one laying around? Or know a shop that has them IN STOCK? (not just listes them on their site, backordered, out-of-stock, maybe someday etc).
Any help appreciated. Thanks.
