    Mil-Spec vs Commercial tubes

    I know they're slightly different. http://store.magpul.com/downloads/Re...Comparison.pdf

Just wondering if there is an easy way to tell which is which without pulling out the calipers.

    Thanks!

Most of the time the mil-spec tube has a straight drop off a the end and the commercial has a slant.

Thanks for the quick reply. Is this a reliable indicator?

If it has a slant, then most likely. If not, I'd check it.

Your other indication would be to try a known stock on an unknown tube.

Here's one of the better visuals. Note the way the threads are created and the slanted back.

When I get the item, I will leave you iTrader feedback, assuming you've already done your part. See how that works?

            Also, from another thread:

commercial is larger, threads are CUT into the metal.
mil-spec is thinner, threads are rolled or crushed into form.

mil-spec is stronger due to the way the threads are made.

It is possible to make a commercial stronger, but no one has done it yet.

^ Thanks for posting that pic Pew Pew Pew.... It saves my bandwith LOL. Its the best way to tell. Just run your finger over the threads and the body of the tube. You will feel the threads are either level or above. Also look at the back part of the threads, a clear sign is the long tapered threads at the back.

Not all commercial tubes have the rear slant so be careful. Best way to tell is look at the threads.
