    Bolt action problems.

I have an old Savage arms 110 in .243. I went to fire it this weekend to get it ready for hunting season and when I pulled the trigger I heard the click but thats it. Upon inspecting the bullet I saw the primer had been struck but it didn't fire. This happened to about 4 other bullets so I know it wan't defective ammo. Also the day before I was firing a different brand of ammo and this stuff I think was defective. It was federal .243 and the blue stuff they use to seal the primers was smoking in the action like I;d never seen. Also some of the primers would pop off the casings and not come out when I cycled the bolt.

Could the bad ammo caused my gun to not work? This happen to anyone else?

Do you have any pictures of the primers? Were they factory loads? With primers blowin' and good primer strikes, sounds like the ammo is the culprit. Has this happened before with that rifle? When was the last time you cleaned the chamber/barrel?

If the primers struck and it didn't go boom.. it sounds like it's the ammo.

      Was this new factory ammo?

I couldn't imagine why the casings wouldn't come out when you cycled the bolt though. Ammo out of spec? Bad extractor? Wrong caliber in rifle?

I'd try some fresh brand new ammo to see..

If you were blowing primers you may have crudded up the firing pin and spring. Take the bolt apart and clean the firing pin etc real good.
I'm only smiling at you while you talk to me because it's hilarious that you really think I give a crap about you.

As I've gotten older I thought I was gaining patience, then I realized I simply don't give a crap.

Any chance the barrel has been removed and re-installed one full turn forward?
This would cause misfires for sure.

If you were getting smoke and crud from the primers then you probably blew a bunch of crud into the firing pin hole and gunked it all up on top of all the old oil from years gone by.

Take the bolt out of the gun and unscrew the that back of it. (That big screwdriver looking slot is a big screwdriver slot). Remove the back of the bolt and pull the firing pin out. Clean the firing pin and spring and use a pipe cleaner and some carburetor cleaner or alcohol and scrub out the firing pin hole in the bolt.

Put it back together with a quick shot of CLP and you'll be fine. Just screw the back of the bolt back on and tighten hand tight, you don't need it gorilla tight.

              Check the firing pin protrusion.
