Mini 14 question

Hi...new to the assault rifles, and for the first time I got to fire a AR15 that my friend built....not as exciting as I thought it would be. I like to get the feeling of the kick in my shoulder, this gun had nothing, now I understand why its designed for the military as full auto.

Another friend of mine recomended the mini14. Just wondering if these are legal in the "great" state of california and even though these utilize the same round (.223) maybe it will put a little more kick in the shoulder...

Any recomendations out there?

Yes, mini-14 are available in CA.
If you like the kick, get the Springfield M1A, Scout, SOCOM or the full size series.

Yeah, the mini-14 is legal, but often considered inferior to the AR. There is a guy here who does significant upgrades to the mini to make it equal to or possibly better than the AR, but a downside in your case is that it has even LESS recoil.

If you want to feel something that goes bump, get an M1A. You'll know you are shooting something then.

Instead of a Mini-14, you should check out the Russian American Armory Saiga .223. It definately has more kick than an AR, and is CA Legal.
(And cheaper than a Mini-14 too).

I own a mini 14 and a couple of AR's. They're all legal to own here in California. I don't understand why you want to feel the recoil more. Maybe you're going through some kind of a rights of passage to become a man or something . Anyway, if it's recoil you want, try a 12 gage, 3" magnum 00 buck, and remove the recoil pad. Anyway the mini won't kick anymore than the AR.

Of course you could go with a .300WinMag bolt gun for the "feel the manhood" type kick. Heck even a .30-30 lever action will kick more than a .223 but neither of those are military-styled. M1 Garand? .30-06 might get your attention

Before I put the brake on my Savage it kicked nice but nothing to bad. My M14 kicks a lot harder. I can not shoot more then 50 rounds before the metal butt plate starts to tenderize me. I forget about shooting slugs from my 18" 870. That hurts.

There is 6 degrees of recoil inbetween the M1A and anything chambered in .50 BMG... Am I missing some subtle sarcasm there?

Mini-14's are kickier, as a rule... Mini-30's (7.62x39mm) are even "kickier", but then it's lost on me why you would want a gun based on its recoil characteristics... M1A or a SOCOM kick more, but they are smoother and slower recoil - even with a steel buttplate I don't feel soreness in the shoulder, unless I go above 200 rounds in a day.

I haven't shot anything between my M14 and a 50 so that is relative to me. I did not mean to imply nothing kicks harder till you get to a 50

Ahh.. I have the rubber pad on mine w/ the synthetic stock. Maybe it actually works..

I you want a kick in the shoulder. get a .50 Beowulf upper!
I would like to see if you can shoot couple hundred rounds of .50 Beo without feeling it for next day or two.
