Help diagnose my AK - Please help

Purchased a GP WASR 10/63. I know calguns frowns on these weapons, but I just wanted a cheap toy.

Tested the firearm and it will not go into battery. Should I send it back to Century Arms for repair/replacement or is there a better solution?

    Thanks.

It is clearly getting caught up on something and there is not that much there in an AK to get caught on.

When you bought it did it go into battery?

Disassemble the rifle and make sure there is nothing out of place, that the bolt carrier is riding on the rails correctly, that the gas rod did not some how snap or the trigger group is not binding on the bottom of the bolt carrier.

AK's are caveman simple. If there is a major problem that you can not fix send it back.

Did you order this or did you buy this at a store? If you bought in a store, you never racked it? It's stuff like this that gives this rifle a bad name really. Because if you bought this at the store and did not check everything then that is on you.

Take it apart (not trigger group) and check for any obstructions in the gas tube, bent internal rails, bolt, bolt carrier etc. Unless one can see the rails inside or the rifle, this makes it hard to diagnose. Do you have it assembled properly? Any friends with AK pattern experience? Heck you are in LA there are tons of members there. If you were in Irvine I would help you.

First, check to see if there are burrs on the bolt carrier rails, maybe it's hanging up on that. Either way, it might need a light sanding and lube.

Second, field strip that mo-fo and check the gas tube, maybe there's a glow-in-the-dark condom sitting in there from the last party at the Century shop, or rather, look for carbon build up.

Or the gas tube is too tight or wrong size piston. Pull the bolt carrier/piston out and line it up alongside the firearm, placing the bolt carrier/piston where it should be seated correctly and see if it's too long or extends beyond the gas tube.

Century has been known to use whatever is laying around the shop.... so.

            Let us know.

EDIT: Additionally, with the firearm assembled, simply pull the bolt carrier all the way back and release it, allowing it to slam up into battery. The AK is a rough and crude firearm, it doesn't need to
            be babied.

Does it stop abruptly like something is hitting, or does it bind gradually?

In your picture the latch on the rear sight block is open. Did you remove it? Is the gas tube seated all the way in? Make sure it's not sitting up, and binding on the carrier.

I'm in LA. If you need help let me know.

I was at Turners the other day and they were trying to sell a young Marine an IO AK. I stepped in and told the guy not to pick it up, it was a piece of ****. They looked at me like I was mad and I was, I was mad that they would sell a pile of **** to this young dude who serves our country & was totally new to the platform. I field stripped it right then & there, all sorts of crap was falling out of the receiver, out of the bolt carrier when I removed the recoil spring; sawdust, dirt and chunks of cosmoline. The thing should not have been out on the floor. I just put it back together, handed it back to them and didn't say anything else. It was plainly obvious it was a POS. They're a big chain and they can return crap or at least select decent firearms to sell to their customers.

We all know some shops treat people with little or no respect if a person is a novice to a platform and asks for help, not always, but we've all seen it. Some of us are also too proud to admit we're not entirely sure what to do with what we have in our hands.... say it ain't so, ha!

Is it grinding to a stop? Can you force it forward? I'm guessing it's probably a rail issue.

I hastily put this thread together, let me put out some more info.

The rifle cycles properly, as in the the bolt will compress back and slide forward without hesitation. The issue arises when a round is introduced into the chamber (with or without magazine), it's as if it doesn't want go in the last inch.

I disassembled and reassembled the weapon several times. I have lubed all the proper metal contact points and made sure nothing was getting hung up. I examined the piston/gas port to make sure there was clearance. All checked out.

The funny thing is if I give it a little elbow grease (knocking it with a hammer), it'll reluctantly move forward. But I shouldn't have to put this much effort to get it into battery.

As far as the bolt carrier on the rails are concerned, the rails are very crudely machined but does allow movement.

Some time on google tells me these things aren't that uncommon with GP WASR's.

I'm going to the range tomorrow. Hopefully it just needs a little break in.

S&W M&P15T owner. Great rifle. It's like built like a g-damn swiss watch compared to this thing.

Abrupt stop. I'll stick a round into the bolt and release charging handle and it gets stuck. Oddly enough after going caveman on this thing for about 10 mins it did manage to go into battery properly but still got caught up every other round.

Are you sure its a wasr 10? There are wasr 2 and 3s which are 5.45 and 5.56. Or its the wrong barrel?
