    question on stock refinishing

I've just finished staining my Saiga/AK stock and grips. I sanded them all down down to 220. Then moistened the wood with water, let it dry, and hit it again with 320. The wood felt super smooth. But, how do I get a really nice glossy finish? I tried a spray on clearcoat on another project, but it sucked, you could scrape it off with a fingernail. Do I just oil down the wood? Use super fine sandpaper?

I normally obtain glossy finishes by sanding with 0000 steel wool then using multiple coats of Tung oil.

I used #0000 as the final sand on my FAL wood and Tung Oil, very happy with the look. Knock down any rough spots and reapply until your happy.

What kind of stain, varnish, finish are you looking to get on the AK?

I just picked up some Olympic oil based from Lowe's. I'm trying to get it to match a Mossberg 500 stock. I just posted pics in a thread about Saiga furniture.

The color is right on, but the Mossberg is so much slicker and smoother.
