Savage 110 Vs. 111

Hello fellow gunners,

Originally I wanted to get a Remington 700, but I also want a Glock so I have to be a bit more wise about spending so the wife doesnt shoot me with them.

So after some research, I decided to get a Savage 111 with a Simmons scope. I can pick one up from Big 5 for 400 plus 10% off (I know the manager). I know the scope is garbage, but I am going to give it a try. Most likely I will get a better scope.

So my question is whats the difference between the 110 and 111? Is it just the accu-trigger and if so, can't I just mod the trigger on the 111?

For up to 200 yards, is the 111 the best bang for the buck. I am not into hunting, just having fun.

Oh yeah, I want it in .308 since 30-06 is a little more pricey.

I wouldn't say the Simmons scope (assuming 3-9x40) is garbage. My friend has a model 110 with that scope and it works just fine. Holds a zero. But it's a hunting rifle, not a target or tactical rifle.

Check the action numbers on what you're buying. If you're going to shoot 308 you'll probably want the model 10 or 11 (short action) as opposed to the 110 or 111 (long action). Other than that I'm pretty sure it's just the stock/accutrigger that is different between them and you can buy several aftermarket triggers to fit if you want to change it.

Long action accommodates longer cased cartridges like 30-06, .270win, .300win mag, etc. While short action is for .308, .223, .243, etc. Generally, short action bolt guns tend to be slightly lighter than their long action counterpart due to less needed metal.
