I need a gun smith that can thread a my barrel

I want to thread my savage 10fp and put a 308 brake on it. Does anyone know a gun smith near the bay area that could do this.

If the OD on your muzzle is close to your brake ID. You can buy the thread alignment tool, die and handle for under $70 I believe @ Brownells and do it yourself and have the tools to do it again. Its easy.

Those threading tools are great- I actually just used one for the first time this week. They only work if say, you need a 5/8x24 thread, and your bbl OD is from .625-.660 at most. Savage Bull bbls are @ .800. It will have to be single pointed.

HEY.....do you know what you're talking about? Those numbers are sounding all technical..... like somebody who doesn't know what they're talking about but doesn't want everybody else to know that they don't know.....

Just got your PM too.... I'll get you some photos asap.

I havn't found anyone in the Bay Area. All the local smith sends your barrel out to be threaded. You can try Nor Cal Precision, I think they are in American Canyo, I havn't called them yet and they havn't answered my email.

If you can remove your barrel, I'd send it over to Randall at AR15barrels.com.
I don't want to deal with removing the barrel myself right now and paying a local smith to remove/reinstall the barrel. So, I'm sending mines out myself I think....

Where are you located? I'm doing the same thing to my 10fp...

The barrel tapers down to .830 I believe. I know the 20" I had cut down ended up .087 near the muzzle brake collar.
