    front sight post blurry

When I shoot it takes me longer to aquire my sight picture on my AR then it does on my handgun. Also the front post is always fuzzy (im getting old) Will those radio active enhanced front sight posts help me out?

It could help you out with quick target aquisition, but if that's your only problem...you might want to buy a nice red dot/holographic sight and forget about using your irons as your main sighting instruments.

If you want to see if changing the color of the front sightpost can make a different, paint some whiteout on it. If it doesn't work, you can just scrape it off. Would cost next to nothing to try(or even white, then a colored marker over that).

I don't understand. Are you not able to focus on the front post, or are you just focusing on the target instead? Gotta pick one. Are you experienced using iron sights? If not, then give yourself some time to figure it out. Optics aren't always the answer...

If you change your point of focus from the front sight to the target, does the target also stay a little blurry? If so you might be in the beginning stages of astigmatism.

That's what happened to me a few years back shooting an AR in High Power. The front sight got to blurry to see it clearly. Got glasses and everything was ok again.

You could also try one of the Microsights Ahhnother8 mentions. Makes the front sight post clear as a bell.

And before anyone jumps in and says something....when you focus on the front sight (which you should be doing) it should be clear and the target slightly blurry, and vice versa. But it sounds like you know that already.

Optics aren't the only answer, but it's an easy answer! Irons are hard because there are three things in you need to pay attention to, but you can only focus on one thing! Optics makes life easier. I'd do that, since I just want to have fun killing paper and not going cross eyed! On older milsurp rifles, it's more fun to shoot irons because that's part of the appeal, but on an ar, what the heck, go for fun!

Optics will help. Even young eyes acquire site pictures faster with optics than irons. Irons are great for skill building and as the last resort, but when the metal meets the meat (quoting Mel G) everyone wants all the advantage they can gather. You deserve the same.

where it's true optics allow for faster target acquisition, irons may still offer a high degree of accuracy with practice.

                      1. focus on the target and 'blur' the sight post.

                      or...

                      2. blur the target and focus of the sight post.

all the while keeping the post centered in the rear aperture.

I'm 70 on my next birthday and i trained with M1 Garands in the US Army and I've been with irons since...but i do use optics, too...depending on what I'm "doing" at the time I'm shooting; distances in excess of 100yds/meters...optics

my AR is currently set up to use any but i leave the A2 carry-handle system on board most of the time. they're rugged, dependable and accurate when calibrated and used correctly. (they can offer VERY accurate results, too, with proper training and practice)

keep in mind...the optics enable you to SEE the target but it's ultimately YOU that has to HIT the target...
