I have recently purchased a Remington 700 Varmint SPS in .308; the gun is a bdl version rifle which means it has the floor plate on the stock. If I want to make the gun able to use removable mags do I need to buy a conversion or will it be able to do that already?

I have never heard of a drop in DBM that was worthwhile, so you will need a gunsmith to inlet your stock for whatever you plan on purchasing. But with a SPS stock, you probably would not want to waste the money on inletting it, so another stock would be a better candidate for a good DBM.NRA Member sigpic -
You want a Badger Ordinance M5 magazine floor plate.Comment

I'd add CDI Precision to that list and it is definitely worthwhile. I am really happy with mine on my 700p and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to someone else. It uses the AICS mags, which are expensive but it has been flawless for me.Comment
