Seems like this could be a jr. version of the 50 bmg. Can we get these here in California? I would just love to have something with this kind of power. Plus it allows me to buy a new bigger safe in which I can fit even more toys.

Answer to your question: YES.
Unfortunate Drawback: waiting list @ Armalite. Mine is SUPPOSED to be here sometime in the next month or two. I ordered it & paid for it over a YEAR ago. Armalite has back-dated ETA of my rifle about 5 times now.
Advice: BEST price on any .338LM: but you are going to have to REALLY want one (and REALLY be prepared to wait 'till sometime next summer....MAYBE.)

p.s.- sorry if this disappointed you, but facts ARE facts- and, as a person who thought they could just go order one through my FFL & wait a couple of weeks for acquisition, I just wanted to prepare you if you are serious about getting one. As was my thought as well.
I was able to shoot their 300wm and liked it.. figured Id go for the 338.
You can find the 300 on gunbroker etc .. but 338?? BLAH! I guess I should pony up now and wait it out

I called armalite and they said Febuary. I have no problem with that, it is, what it is. Any of you want to try and get a group buy going? I am ready to throw down cash as of Thursday! I am buying my first right handed rifle and am going to be learning to shoot with my right eye. As a lefty this is going to be hard. being able to shoot both right handed and left handed is something i've always wanted to learn to do.

JUST advice: EACH & EVERYTIME Armaliar gives you a date, you WILL go thru this process: 1) Add 4-6 months to whatever they say
2) After time is up, call back
3) They'll give a NEW date
4) Add another 4-6 mos. to THAT
5) Same, same " " "" "" '"""
6) Until the rifle is IN YOUR FRIGGIN" HANDS.....just close your ears
to ALL : promises / "guesses" / "estimates" / dates.

I'm not B.S.'n you---I have been living through this now for 14 1/2 months. I'm as big an Armalite lover as the next guy & I understand "backups," but giving false hope to your customers & being this slow about it, IMHO, is called: bad business. (they SHOULD throw in a FREE STORMCASE to all the customers they did this to. That's what your AR-30 should SHIP in + FREE shipping!!!!!!!!YEAH, RIGHT!!!!!!!!!)

I wouldn't trust Armalite either. I ordered an AR-30 338LM in July 2005 and cancelled it in November 2006 and got myself a used one instead.

I really wonder how those small arms companies are run. I think someone would have kicked their butts, if they weren't protected my regulations and low profit.

The better option

Build a 338 Remington Ultra Mag...

Rebarrel your 700 w/ something heavy, put on the Knoxx Axiom Stock on, for the pistol grip thing, etc...And has recoil absorbtion in the butt.

the AR30 (I have owner 2, and sold them both) shows poor accuracy. It takes hours of handload development and tailoring to get the thing to do 2moa accuracy. The brake is a shrunk version of the 50 brake- it is not that effective. The holland or Vais is better on a 338. The AR30 weighs 8 lbs too much. The Barrel is too thin. Wonlt hold accuracy over more than 3-5 shots. Trigger sucks. Stock is NOT adjustable (looks like it). Really front heavy when fired off-hand. Dare I go on.

Build a 338 RUM.

The rum cartridge gets spot-on equal velocity by adding 2" of barrel.

and your RUM can be ready in 6 weeks start to finish.

Friend of mine bought an AR 30 last year (in 338 LM) for $400.00 from some fellow starting a move to San Fran who heard they were illegal. He drove to Riverside, picked up the guy & the gun & brought them both to a local gun store to start DROS, then drove the guy back to Riverside.
