Just bought 10 round pmags, are they legal?

I just picked up a full size 30 round pmag that was modified to only hold 10 rounds from my local gun store in Temecula. I have no idea what the do to limit the rounds, all I care about is are they legal to have? I would assume they are because I bought them from a gun shop. But I'm just mostly curious as to what would happen if a LEO saw me at the range using these pmags and decided to question me, would I just need to show him that I can only load 10 rounds into it? I saw a thread about this a ways down but didn't really see a definitive answer, and couldn't really understand where the conversation was going. Thanks for any help.

10/30 PMAGs are legal. People have different opinions on what constitutes permanence of the modification, and what you would call the resulting mag. But as long as it is permanently modified to hold 10 or fewer rounds, it's good to go.

Thanks for the quick responses guys.
They only hold ten rounds, so I guess I'm good to go.

do they hold more than 10 rds?
if an Officer asks you about them...tell the truth, you bought them, they only hold ten rds.

If its a 10/20 or 10/30 mag youre plenty good. Its required you dont hold more than 10 rounds in any fixed centerfire rifle configuration (ie use of a bullet button). Holding 11+ in a fixed configuration, and youre committing a felony.

If you had any mags able to hold 10+ rounds before 01/01/2000, then you might want to research going into the featureless configuration route. This would allow you to use all of your high caps, and not have to use a bullet button.

If you didnt own such mags, make sure they stay clear of your new AR.

                Best of luck!

Most likely you won't have any problems. If you feel paranoid, keep the receipt with the gun that shows you bought 10 round magazines regardless of what the outside of the magazine looks like.

I have seen people paint 10/30 or 10/20 on mags but I am not sure if that is for the range officer or so they don't put the wrong mag in the wrong gun.
