AK 47 bad shell eject problem

Went shooting this weekend with my Romanian AK 47 built on a Nodak Spud 3 receiver. With a 10/30 as well as a strict 10 round mag, usually around the 8th round, the shell gets stuck like so:

on rare occasions, the shell actually ended up UNDER the top cover like so:

any ideas here? I was thinking maybe its the recoil spring is a little weak?

I had the same problem with an AK. I spoke with the builder for quite a while about it. On my rifle he suspected that there was an issue with the ejector (if that is the proper name of the part). The blade that protrudes into the bolt face that catches the spent casing and flings it out of the bolt. Mine either wasn't shaped properly or had been filed down. On my rifle it would happen about 50% of the time.

How long have you had the rifle? Had it worked properly before and just started doing this?

Ive had it for about a year. It has always been doing it ever since the first time i shot it. I'll PM the original sender and talk to him about it i guess...

I traded a working pistol for my AK, it was from a very reputable builder. After I eventually got ahold of the builder and got info on the rifle I contacted the guy I got it from. He took the rifle back and payed me for the pistol. I decided to just buy 2 saiga's with the cash and convert them.

Unfortunately you may have waited too long to contact the guy you got it from, he may claim you did something to cause it to malfunction. Good luck.

It doesn't immediately look like the ejector has been messed with. Although it's possible(but unlikely given that it's an NDS3) that it may have been faulty from the beginning.

I'd start by looking at the extractor. Check to make sure there isn't something caught up in there causing it to not fully grip the case, and that it has good spring tension. also can you post a pic of the bolt and carrier as it passes the ejector. like this...

This photo stolen from fredieusa's virgin build tutorial

Might help to determine if the ejector is too short.

Did you leave the gas tube unlocked like in the pics on purpose or overlooked?

Take the bolt out of the carrier and run it on the rails until it locks up. Put a round in the bolt and work the bolt back from the chamber to the ejector and see how much of the case the ejector is hitting.
