Got My First AR! - What Will I Need?

    Hi,

I broke down and got a S&W M&P 15 Optic-Ready AR15. I also bought a Troy Industries 7" Drop-in Battle Rail. Do I need to get any special tools to help me install it?

    Thanks,
    -T

Nope. I do suggest you get an extra pair of hands though. I held down the delta ring while my wife placed the rail. Thats all to it.

I think I would go with a Telecaster. The bolt on neck would be the strongest to deal with terrorist zombies. I know most folks will say Strat, but I think the trem system is unreliable.
I mean, who needs to dive bomb when SHTF? That only happens in movies.

            ammo

            cleaning supplies

I still don't get the hand guard obsession. I'm going to take the $100-$250 dollars and use it to shoot the damn thing with the plain, plastic hand guards.

I managed to install my troy battle rail by myself, twice. I used my mechanix gloves to grip the delta ring... helped big time.

              Congrats on the new rifle!
              And condolences on the BRD

I have the same one. I installed Magpul BUS and riser to mount a scope. I am happy with the way it turned out. Its nothing like some on here, but does the job. I just wish I had an endless supply of AMMO

can I slap you upside the head one time?

                        Why did you....

                        1) go buy a expensive rail without first knowing if you will like said rail on your FIRST AR15!

                        2) save that cash and instead buy a good optic?

I understand guys want the "flash"...thats how we get the chics...but Gibbs would still treat you like a probbe for doing it.

I was looking for the DiNozzo head slap, but that emoticon is on AR15.com..not here.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced optic that is not Aimpoint or Eotech........... The Vortex stuff is decent, and the mounts are included. The Vortex Strikefire has a 4MOA dot, and the SPARC has a 2MOA dot. For me, 2MOA is the choice.

Exactaly.........there is just something nice about having a good fat set of M4 plastic handguards (not the thinner carbine profile ones).
