MK18 Mod 0 or SCAR 16s

So my BRD sickness is starting to act up again and I thought about building a MK18 Mod 0. I plan to make it as close to the exact model except replacing the Colt lower with an LMT and permanently attaching a MFI dummy can to the 10.5" LMT upper. Priced it out including optics and it would be the same price as a SCAR 16s without optics.

Just wanted input and opinions from folks that either own or have shot both style rifles. I'm stuck with LMT pulling on one arm and FNH pulling on the other because I can't afford to buy both right now unless I sold my bike. Holler at me folks!

Ive never heard anything more ridiculous than a perm can on a 10.5" bbl. If you want an AR, get a 14.5 or 16, if you want a SCAR get one. Apples to oranges.

you could go the route I did, and make (legally of course) a pistol out of a LMT upper.
I originally planned to do mine as a "Mock 18", but when it came time to buy RIS I ended up just getting std carbine handguards, and tossed a carry handle sight on it. I may change it up in the future though.

If you really must go rifle route, I would just get a std carbine upper and toss a fake can over it that makes it look like a short barrel. If you are going to have the length of a rifle, might as well have the benefits of it as well.

On the SCAR end I picked up a 17s a few months back. Outside of ammo costs, I couldnt be happier!

If I had to pick, Id say SCAR. Like you said, you already have 4 ARs.

^^^ Thanks for the input bro. I originally was going to run the 16" LMT and just slide the MFI over the barrel, only problem is I think I may have OCD and really wanted it as close to the original MK18 as possible lol. Uppers are the same price so that probably would be more practical. As far as the SCAR the 17s is the one I originally wanted, but can't find one CA ready or for a decent price. Valkyrie Arms has a waiting list with like 20 people on it lol.

You must have missed my sarcasm. You cry and cry about building a replica and getting it as close as possible, then say you want to weld a 6" long tube at the end of your rifle, attach a bullet button, use 10rd magazines, and only have sem-auto capabilities.

Are rifles no longer functional tools anymore? We have a term for people like you in the 4x4 world, "Disco Truckers". They buy a 2WD truck, lift it, throw on 35's, Chrome everything, then brag about theyre "offroad" truck. I hate to throw this term out there, but this is mall ninja.

You have 4 AR's why would want a 5th? get the SCAR 16s. And as I read Themailmans response (sarcastic as it maybe) I understood it as leaning towards the SCAR 16s and not the AR, pointing out the problems with trying to make a replica of the MK18 mod 0.

I never understood the appeal of having fake/nonfunctional things on weapons here. If you're trying to make a rifle "as close to the real Mk18 as possible" then you automatically fail pretty hard by having a nearly half-foot long functionless tube permanently attached to it.

Get the SCAR. It's a legit 16'' rifle that'll be different without being phony.
