Is this Extended Length Flash HIder LEgal in CA?

I like the look of the XM 177 flash hider but i'm not about to chop my barrel. I have a california stag with the bullet button etc. and the as-fitted barrel and flash hider. The rear part of this one extends backwards over the barrel, its for appearance of course. Brownells also sells a bit more expensive one of a different brand, but like this one, for $34.95.

does anyone own or know anything about these flash hider/suppresors? And again are they legal?

Totally legal. It's not the flash hider length, it's the barrel length that makes a difference.

Why would it not be legal? It's not a silencer.

The only issue is to avoid SB23 assault weapon laws, as a flash hider (of any type) is an "evil feature" and requires a bullet button and magazine capacity is restricted to no more than 10 rounds.

But the pictured FH is no more or less legal than an A2 birdcage or Smith Vortex.

the flash hider itself is not illegal. But whether it's legal to install on your rifle depends on how you configure it.

you can pretty much bet that anything that makes a rifle looks like CRAP is going to be legal in CA
you don't rise to the occasion,
you just fall back on your level of training.

As a side note, the original XM-177 moderator is now classified as a supressor, if I remember correctly. Part of it's purpose was to damp down the sound, although not nearly to the degree of a dedicated supressor. That was enough for ATF to step in, supposedly...

Doesn't apply to these faux-moderators, but it's an interesting bit of info.
"Are you bringing in any weapons?"
              "Of course not!"
              "You're not changing anything."
