    Winchester 7.62x51 garbage.

Uhg. I spent nearly an hour dialing in a Savage 10 in .308 this morning. I finally figured out that the cheap 7.62x51 Winchester ammo I was using was the main problem. I would fire a group, adjust the scope, and fire again. And the danged zero kept changing. I checked the scope, the rings, the base, everything. I let the barrel cool, I tried it with a hot barrel, nothing seemed to help. Since I was keeping it on the paper at 100 yards, I gave up and moved on to the .308 Power Point ammo we are going to be using for hunting. HUGE difference. It started shooting actual groups. I was consistantly getting under 2 inches at that range, which is more than acceptable for such a light weight rifle. I think that 7.62x51 junk will get relagated to plinking ammo for the non-scoped guns. It works well enough in my various milsurps, but is about as inconsistant as it can get. Bleh. I am glad that I moved on to the hunting ammo, otherwise I would likely still be there trying to get it to tighten up.

Yeah, I know. But I have gotten decent results with it in other rifles and other calibers. It is the cheap stuff that comes in white boxes, and is marked 7.62x51 instead of .308 Winchester.

So you were firing 7.62x51mm ammo out of your rifle chambered for .308Win ammo? Isn't there enough of a difference between the two different calibers to cause issues? Maybe this was the source of your problems. What caliber are your milsurps chambered for?

The milsurps are usually 7.62x51. As for the rifle today, no, I wouldn't think that would do it. It has had no trouble in the past with different milsurp ammo. It just did NOT like the brand today.

I think it's their projectiles. Neither my Garand or my Rem 700 group for beans with their M80 150gr FMJBT that I reloaded with.

                  WWB

There's two types of WWB. One is actually made in Czech Republic (it's the one that doesn't say USA on the box.
