Uhg. I spent nearly an hour dialing in a Savage 10 in .308 this morning. I finally figured out that the cheap 7.62x51 Winchester ammo I was using was the main problem. I would fire a group, adjust the scope, and fire again. And the danged zero kept changing. I checked the scope, the rings, the base, everything. I let the barrel cool, I tried it with a hot barrel, nothing seemed to help. Since I was keeping it on the paper at 100 yards, I gave up and moved on to the .308 Power Point ammo we are going to be using for hunting. HUGE difference. It started shooting actual groups. I was consistantly getting under 2 inches at that range, which is more than acceptable for such a light weight rifle. I think that 7.62x51 junk will get relagated to plinking ammo for the non-scoped guns. It works well enough in my various milsurps, but is about as inconsistant as it can get. Bleh. I am glad that I moved on to the hunting ammo, otherwise I would likely still be there trying to get it to tighten up.
