Earlier m14/m1a Springfield national match vs current

I have a chance to buy a 1980 us property Springfield national match m14/ m1a. It has a plug in the stock where the selector swicth for auto fire was. The stock is the old tigerstripe walnut. The parts are all gi and correct. The throat errosion is less than 1. The bore like new. It is beautiful. I think I am going to have to pay $1900 to get it. Quality and value wise for a future investment am I better off to buy a new national match or go with this. Advise from the knowledgeable please, thanks

The main plus for the older M1A rifles is the g.i. parts. The newer ones have a lot of current commercial made parts that don't seem to hold up as good as the original g.i. ones.

If you call Springfield they can verify via serial number if it indeed left the factory as a National Match. The M1A market is a little soft right now. I would say you are not getting a screaming deal but they are not taking you to the bank either. It would depend on the parts what it is worth though.

Are you talking about a US Property marked M1A, didn't think the US military every purchased any commercial M1A from SA, Inc. Or are you talking about about semi-auto version of M14 with NM mods, built on a SA (the US goverment one) receiver; in which case the GCA of 1968 prohibits its sale.

Early M1A's by Springfield Armory(semi-auto) were marked
762mm-M1A(prior to around serial # 60,000)---that rifle with GI
parts and especially a GI proofed barrel by Winchester,H&R,TRW---is
easily worth that money. I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Pete
