    LH upper+barrel advice?

I bought a semi-complete RH upper. Switching to LH. Bought LH Upper receiver and bolt carrier. In reading threads found I need an ambidexterous extension. RH barrel setup won't work cause of threading and gas port. So, I buy a barrel and ambi extension and get gunsmithed? I buy barrel already decked out and ready to throw on upper (prefered/don't know if exists). Help?

Gas port is the same regardless of Left- Right- hand upper. Not sure about an ambidextrous barrel extension

Here is the conversation, abridged, i've been having with Stag. Great customer service, I'm just confused at this point. Need a second opinion. Looked at White Oak Armament and ER Shaw but still not so clear on what to do.

Stag: The parts work together. You will also need a barrel with an ambidextrous extension installed.

Me: Could we add an Ambidextrous extension to my order?

Stag:I can add an ambidextrous extension onto the order, but it needs to put put onto the barrel when the barrel is being made before the gas port is drilled.

Me: Do you put extensions on barrels and drill gas ports?

Stag:We do not. The barrels along with the plastic pieces and a few of the small springs are the only parts we do not make in house. We ship our extensions to our barrel maker so they can use them on the barrels.

Me:Can your barrel maker supply me with an appropriate barrel ready to put on my LH upper receiver? or is there no way of getting around the gun smith? Any advice?

Stag:White Oak Precession/White Oak Armament or ER Shaw should be able to make the barrel you are requesting.

The ambi barrel extension is $22.00 it properly mates with the Bolt (BCG). I bought all my parts and shipped off to a guy who provided a barrel chambered in 7.62x25 tok. He stated the barrel extension was necessary due to Left hand bolt. There is an alignment point on the top of the ambi Barrel extension.

ambi bolt needs ambi barrel extension and gunsmith has to set headspace.

Mine was stag except barrel and gas block.

White Oak Armament would be my first choice.

As a left handed shooter I view LH uppers as a solution to a non-existent problem. Training with an AR platform rifle whether for home defense or competition will most liekly require learning to shoot both right and left handed. With the brass deflector projection to the rear of the ejection port brass across the shooter's face in a non-issue.

Ok. So my new approach is make two uppers. One RH for running and gunning, and one LH for mid-long range with a nice clear view and balance. Or should I do reverse?

you do a right handed upper and let the deflector do its job

Why not do all in LH? I did 7.62x25 & 5.56 Stag mod3L's for running and gunning and 6.8spc Stag model 7Lfor long range work.
