I picked up a Remington 700 varmint. I have been backing out the set screw as instructed on the trigger, but the pull does not seem to lighten. Do they get stuck? Is there something else I need to do? The break is crisp, but heavy. I do not feel like shelling out more money for a Timney trigger. Thanks in advance.

It might be maxed at the lowest setting, i have mine to where the small set screw is barely threaded in there. I think its hit or miss if it will adjust down to your liking.SA TRP Half rail, Glock 21SF, Spikes St-15, Ruger Alaskan .44, Saiga 7.62, GSSF Member

I tried screwing with mine too. Breaks about 3 maybe 3 1/2 lbs... Idk why they even call it adjustable.Comment

The trigger itself encapsulates the return spring, the spring cant come out even if you remove the screw. Basically, all that adjustment set screw does is it compresses/preloads that return spring ( Acts like the adjustment collar on a coil over shock )
You can see it well in this picture....it doesnt connect to any internal linkages of the trigger...its only job is to push forward on the trigger.
And there is a cup built into the trigger to keep the spring in place , even when the preloading set screw is removed...I have taken a few apart
