I just dont see any challenge in it unless, I'm shooting irons or a 50 offhand. Yea, I've shot one of mrkobota's 50s offhand at that big square.
Thanks a lot! I am now on gunbroker bidding on K31s.

They come up here from time to time and can be sold FTF without dealing with FFL fees or shipping. You won't be sorry if you get a few. They're great rifles that can easily hit steel as far as your eyes allow you to focus at Angeles. Tujungatoes and I have pissed off more than a couple of guys with thier new custom 700s with expensive optics who can't hit steel consistanly out there. They tend to pack up there $2000-$4000 rifles once they find out that they are being outshot by some guys with $250 milsurplus guns with original iron sites.

K31's are wicked, before I made my mauser I was planning on putting a scope on one and really putting people to shame but right now, can't quite justify it.
OT: what loads do you use?

Also that .50cal is friggin awesome looking.

          Lehigh 650gr copper solids. http://www.lehighbullets.com/products.asp?cat=30&pg=2

235gr H50BMG powder or (not sure ammount of) the cheap military powder from Wideners.

          and CCI primers.

Works well for inside 600yds or so. For longer distances I use AMAX or 750gr barnes solids. The short barrel (24") doesn't get the velocity for anything much heavier than 750gr.

If you are looking to shoot long distances get a 36" barrel.

235 grains is a bit hot even for 650 grain bullets. Have you cronyed your loads? Have you papered them? If so, what kind of results are you getting? I find my ALS likes 215-218 grains of H50 under an Amax a lot better than if I try to push them faster.

Most 100 yard BR shooters do not use 36" barrels. 30"-32" is far more common and has been proven to produce smaller groups. I have shot my 30" barrelled AR50 out to one mile without a problem. I'd never recommend a 36" tube to anyone unless, they were planning on cutting it down a little.

This is what I based my load on.
                Load.jpg

                It recommended 232-245gr H50BMG for 647gr. TSXs

The 650gr chrono was between 2750-2800fps. Paper was unimpressive.

The reason I recommended the 36" barrel was because when I was shooting a mile the only guy that was able to hit consistently was shooting a State Arms rifle with a 36" barrel. The longer barrel was able to spin up the 850gr+ bullets that he was using. For our group it worked out that the longer the barrel the better the accuracy was for us at the very long distances.

IMO it was the heavier bullets that seemed less susceptible to environmental factors. When I put the 850s through the 24" barrel velocity was so low that the spin wouldn't stabilize the bullet. Velocity was <1950fps.

He was also shooting 950gr solids that did even better than the 850s.

Joining the FCSA and utilizing our members only forum would be a good start. The only other forum I'd recommend is this one. Mine were easy. I just sent DOJ $25 and a list of my 50BMG rifles. If you want a non BMG chambered 50cal rifle, you can either buy an upper (the most common non-BMG chambering is the EDM version of the .510DTC cartridge) chambered in one of several non-BMG cartridges, have a gun built by an 07 50smith or buy a 50BMG, send it to an out of state 50 smith and have it rechambered/rebarrelled to a DTC variant or whatever else you might want.

The cheap and simple way to get a non competitive rock buster would be to find a used Bohica upper in DTC and put it on one of your lowers. The cheap way to get a 50 which has set more than a few (now all broken by Lee and Sheri) world records, would be to buy an ALS upper. there are about half a dozen different manufactures of 50 uppers out there and most of them will chamber an upper in a DTC variant for you. If you want a non-AR platform, you can look at having a custom Mc Bros action gun built for you or, look at State Arms, Noreen, EDM, etc.

+1 on the State Arms in DTC. Definitly my next rifle. (After the K31 shows up of course.)
