Yes, you can use new parts to rebuild you old mags, and EVENTUALLY, replacing it as a whole, is ok.

It may seem stupid, it may seem overly precautions, but do it one part at a time. Use the USGI spring in the P-Mag, then keep the original P-mag spring until the USGI one wears out.

I know that its not a good idea to completely replace the mag, especially with a different design (USGI vs PMAG), but I was under the impression that you could rebuild your old mags. Replacing it completely is a bit tricky but I thought that if you saved the old mag, labeled it or something, that it would make it easier..

So I guess the most trouble free way to go about doing this, is the use USGI type parts, to repair and replace your worn out mags..

Actually saving the old parts is a two way street. They both prove you repaired an old magazine, they also prove you manufactured a new magazine. Just because you view it one way doesn't mean a DA is going to view it that way. No evidence is NO EVIDENCE. You provide evidence by making statements.

You have to fall back on the fact there is no law against OWNING a large capacity magazine...BUT there is one against manufacturing. The fact you argue what you did was repair, can be twisted against you into manufacturing. Why go down that road?

Repairing a large capacity magazine by eventually changing all of the old parts with new parts is perfectly legal.

Replacing a large capacity magazine by manufacturing a new one and destroying the old one is illegal.

In both cases you start out with an old magazine and a new parts kit. In both cases you end up with a functional magazine made out of 100% new parts. But one way is legal and the other is illegal. Stupid? Yes!

P mags are easier to load; they do not poke your fingers – just a much better mag, so it sounds like I will replace the follower body and floor plate. Keep older springs.

I've used PMag parts to replace the old parts of several of my old 30 round USGI metal magazines. The PMag parts match the appearance of my black rifle better. And what sold me on the PMag parts is, they are QUIETER than my metal mags. I never thought I wouldn't like the sound my metal mags make but once you go polymer...
