Going rate on SU16s??? Which one to get??

Hey guys...as you know Im trying to sell/trade my Krag to get a Kel Tec.

Ive had a few people offer to buy it outright, but I don't know how much a Kel Tec runs, so I don't know what to sell it for.

Also, in your opinions, what is the best CA legal Kel Tec to get?? I like the SU16B model with the metal sights....

Whats the used market like on Kel Tecs and whats the new price for one, typically???

I appreciate any help. Here's a pic of the krag for anyone who hasn't seen it:

If I had a choice, I want this Kel Tec:

    SU-16 "CA"

    SU-16 "B" model...

I guess I'd take a B if I had to, but I really like the CA's sights and layout. I really dont want an A model...

    Thanks!

My local shop has the B's for $599 and the CA's for $649, but they're not a chain, you'd surely find it cheaper at a large chain-store like Turner's. The B has the best sights, the CA has the shorter/heavier profile/threaded barrel. Either would make you happy, CA is probably the way to go though.

Don't sell your Krag to fund it though, those Krags have the best action I've ever felt, and they're a piece of history, put it in the safe and just save up for the Kel-tec.

      Here's a brand new one for $400
Lord, make my hand fast and accurate.
Let my aim be true and my hand faster
than those who would seek to destroy me.
Grant me victory over my foes and those who wish to do harm to me and mine.
Let not my last thought be 'If I only had my gun."
And Lord, if today is truly the day you call me home, let me die in an empty pile of brass.

The shop by me is asking $575 for SU-16CA's. DD's ranch has them for $519.95. So even with the DROS it will be a good deal.

DD's Ranch is selling the CA's for $520, which I believe is the only version they will send to Kali. I've seen them used in the Private Sales forum go for $375 to $450.

I had and prefer the CA version.

If you're dilligent you can find the CA for ~$550.

The only difference between the A and B is barrel length. The CA has a different bolt handle (which is supposed to push the brass forward on ejection), a dust cover on the action, the front sight (obviously) on the gas system, and the barrel is heavier and threaded (takes AR muzzle devices).

All SU-16's are available in Kalifornia except the C model.

The C model can be fired while folded, making it evil.

The CA combines the design of the A with some of the improvements found in the C (which uclaplinker outlined above). CA does not, as some assume, stand for California.

The CA is worth the premium over the A's and B's.

I would spend my money on something else like a mini-14 or a .223 siaga. I own a su-16 ca and havent seen it in five and a half weeks . because I had to send it back to kel-tec after only having it for a week because of FTE problems. you could buy a siaga and 1k rds and spend about the same amount of money. but others have had good luck with this gun so it's up to you.

Yah thats what Ive been doing for the last 28 yrs...It just doesnt do it for me, I'd rather have something I can use... The krag is old enough to just not be that efficient for "combat" like an '03 or a K98 could be, and the ammo is basically obsolete, making it like a "3rd line" choice at best for use... Yer more than welcome to adopt it if you dig em

Well, I would maybe consider a SAIGA in .223 but only if I could find an AR to Galil mag adaptor... See I have plenty of legal preban AR mags. I have none for SAIGA or Mini... I had a Mini before, it was such a POS I would rather use a baseball bat, to me being able to HIT my target past 100yds is kinda important, lol...

Right now Im setup with a fixed mag AR, and Id like to get the SU so I can use my hicaps all the time, and put it in the truck or take it camping, etc... I have my reasons for wanting one, and the mag interchange is the biggest one...

Ive looked at making a Mini take AR mags and Id have to weld plates to the receiver and mill the magwell opening out bigger, and I don't want to invest the effort in a gun that won't shoot better than 4" groups at 100yds (meaning 6-8" at 200+yds... hell last Mini I had couldn't even hit a 24" gong at 300yds 50% of the time... thats not gonna cut it)

Like I said, the SAIGA might be an option, but I'd rather have something that takes AR mags and works out of the box.

I like the CA because it doesn't have the raised front sight base, and it has the thickest barrel, also has threads on the barrel for a compensator or whatever... Short sight radius isnt a concern, my SKS has a shorter radius than the CA and its fine out to 300yds...

Thanks for all the information... Looks like if I can get $600-650 for the KRAG I'll be doing OK...

I'd consider selling one of my ARs too, I have enough parts to build up a spare once I find another upper, so I would have like 3 of them then. I don't really need 3 fixed mag ARs and I don't like gripless or MMG that much (my choice, MMG is a great product just not my ergonomic cup o' tea)

Lastly the Keltec would be great for a female in a "bug out" situation being light and able to carry 2 mags on the rifle and using ammo/mags that are very common to LEO/Military and civvie ARs.

                    Take it easy guys...

I just bought the CA model from Discount Gun Mart on Morena Blvd. in San Diego for $495 brand spanking new. Got the foreend mod to replace the cheesy looking bipod for $45. The $495 was the sale price from a parking lot sale they had a few weeks back but the owner gave me the sale price anyway. Might be worth calling and asking if it's still available at the sale price...

Why would you sell that Kraig for a Keltec? Kraigs are beautiful pieces of history. Keltec SU16s are....

Because its my rifle, and I can

Lets see...when the world ends and I have to fight off zombies, what good is a 10# ammo-less shiny bolt action club going to do me?? Compare that with a 5# .223 rifle that shoots AR-15 mags, of which I own plenty....

                          Hrm...easy choice

Like I said...anyone who wants the krag, cash n carry...adopt a piece of history.

If it was an original carbine and not a sporter, I probably wouldnt sell it...as it is, Ive owned it 28 yrs, and its just not my cup o' tea.

Well I found a SU16CA for about $525 (thats with transfer and all that)

Ive been looking on gun broker, Krag carbine sporters go anywhere from $400 to 1000, but ALL of the ones I saw were almost butt ugly compared to mine...

I'd say $650 would make me a very happy JP... I also think its a fair price after researching the market... The best part is all you need is a stock and its basically a correct Carbine... the rest of the gun is NICE...

Anyone who is SERIOUS and wants to buy it, is more than welcome to check it out in person and shoot it (you bring the ammo)

I'm not hiding anything, I just seriously don't need it anymore. My local pawn ship said they'd do $450 and if they'll go $450 I know its worth a lot more, cuz they would only offer me $100 for my Yugo SKS and $60 for my Makarov...LOL (I get my stuff "appraised" sometimes)

I also just recently brought home my Model 62 gallery pump .22, but its not going anywhere

You guys will die when you see pics, looks like it was made yesterday....
