    Untreated leather sling HELP

What is the best product to use to treat my untreated leather rifle sling?

Neatsfoot oil from the local hardware store. Got some at Ace. Then kept applying until the blonde color turned light brown and it got very soft. Over a period of weeks.

Is it one of those MRT slings? I use Kiwi mink oil on my slings. Only needs 1 or 2 applications. Turner Slings sells their treatment product for $9 also. It seems to me it is mink oil too. My sling's over 10 years old and still doing well.

Yes, but be sure it is Neatsfoot OIL, not "oil compound", which can rot stitching. I'd put both the oil and the sling out in the sun for a while before applying. I'd also dip the sling in water (yes, it's okay, really) and wipe before oiling; as it will open the pores to accept the oil.

The best product I have ever used for leather is called Hydrophane, which can be found at feed/tack stores. It's a bit pricey, but just a bit.

For what it's worth, I've been dealing daily with saddles, reins, harness for 45 yrs.

        I hope this helps.
