How often do you clean under your rail?

I had a Midwest quad rail on my LMT and it's a great fit with no play, but man it's a pain to get off and on. I'm curious how often you guys clean under the rail system or free float systems. I know if it's a range gun it probably doesn't get too dirty under there, but how often is acceptable to clean it?

I just use my compressor to blow out under mine once in a while.

I've never cleaned under there...If there is crud/mud then just bang it against a wall or something.

Or like motorwerks said, use some compressed air.

I rarely clean handguards/rails under normal range conditions. the only time I do is after a number of range visits, after shooting corrosive ammo or if dirt got in there just from being out in field conditions. overall nothing to sweat about.

something that use to drive me crazy in Iraq is one of the team leaders in my platoon would instruct his guys to take their optics and lasers off to clean the rail underneath them. Way to **** up your zero to clean a part that has no factor in the function of your weapon, hero.

Why would you clean something that no one sees and it doesn't affect the rifle's function?

Spray it down with Remington Gun Oil or Hoppes, or whatever you use and it will not rust. No need to waste time taking the handguard off...

And compressed air too like the others said.

I just popped my handguards off for the first time in 25 years on my KISS AR. It looked like the day I bought it without a speck of dirt or rust on it. I wiped it down and the cloth was white glove clean.
