    I guess he attached it there to be handy in case the Trijicon optic dies and he needs to replace it, or he wants to take it off for CQB

                You didnt hear about this? Mil wouldnt procure any Magpul AFG's due to cost. This was the next best thing.

                  Seriously should mount on a side rail, so when optics take a **** just flip the gun sideways and keep shooting...

                          point shooting would be better in a pinch... i kept my carry handle in my pocket as we weren't issued BUIS when they issued us our M68's. unless you're alone and have limited cover available you'll have time to remove the optic and replace with the carry handle.
