You don't have to spend thousands of dollars on a scope for an AR. You can get a nice nikon prostate for 190 bucks and be berry happy.

EOD is a science of vague assumptions based on debatable data taken from inconclusive experiments with instruments of problematic accuracy by persons of questionable mentality.

i have a vortex viper that i just put on my 16" bcm mid length that is 2x-7x magnification. I zeroed in my scope at 200 yards on a steel target at angeles. I will say 7x isn't enough to see target holes at 100yards but i can plink 200yard steel all day long. The vortex is a nice scope for around $160. I would recommend it to anyone. nice and clear

Much too low power for mid to long range

The scope itself is around $199 before delivery. I believe this is the best scope for the $$. Check it out and good luck.

PS: These prices were from SWFA.
I have had very good luck with Millett scopes but for the OPs stated purpose of mid to long range I can't see a 1-4 power scope. I have both a Millett TRS-1 (4-16x) and a LRS (6-24x) both have the features you need for long range work (parrallax/focus adjustment, large adjustment range, finger adjustable turret, but most importantly you can get them with Mil dot and 1/10 Mil adjustments). With a TRS-1 the OP would be a bit over his $200 limit.

                Primary Arms 4-16x for $160.

Personally though I would go with a better mount like the American Defense for it.

Was shooting my buddies 24" AR with this scope mounted on it today and we were getting out to 500 yards with ease, and we are noobs...

Check out the Nikon M223 at primary arms with one of their mounts. If you want a top notch, goes back to zero mount, buy the Nikon M223 and then buy a Larue or American Defense.

You are right, but......when I think of mid to long range from an AR (most likely with a chrome lined barrel too), I think the 1-4x is probably good enough??? It works well for me.
