First rifle build

So I am really looking into building my first AR. I have used AR's before and feel that I would be best suited to start on that platform. The issue is that I do not make much money and could really use some advice on how to build a respectable 5.56 rifle on a budget. Any help is greatly appreciated and am hoping to not get flamed hard for this broad and most likely generic question.

I am planning this build around the "Home defense/SHTF" ideas. I want to be able to adequately train with this rifle and keep it as a stable backup weapon for the future after I am able to furhter my rifle collection.

@Barbasol- Nice rifle man, I am not really into the whole two-tone thing but it has a really clean look to it.
