I would like some responses or opinions on LMT's 308. I am looking for an AR style rifle with the punch of a 7.62. I have done some research on the LMT 308's and they seem pretty good to go. I just don't want to drop that much money on one if they are not top of the line. If anyone out there has one or has shot one I would like to hear the pros/cons of the weapon. Also, I am interested in any other 7.62 AR style weapon any of you may have in mind. I am also new to Orange County and am looking for places to shoot and some good, God fearing Americans to go shooting with. Thanks for the information.

Thinking about a LMT 308

have you considered JD Machine as a candidate for an AR-10? they make some pretty good stuffWTB:
1)AR15 Aero Precision Skeletonized Lower
2)S&W 686 6in barrel ...686 No dash through 686-4
3) Saltworks M5 upper/lower set

what length/type of barrel you looking for. You could also look into noveske N6 heavy 7.62, LWRC R.e.p.r. , Larue tactical OBR, dont know your price range but all are pretty reliable. my dream 7.62 would be a 20" OBR and after i win the lotto maybe a repr w/ high end optics. From what i heard lmt has a pretty sizable government contract so they must have the reliability to back it up.Comment

You also might want to consider AR's chambered in 6.5 Grendel or 6.8 SPC II. If finding an AR with the punch of the 7.62 is what's important to you, look into both cartridges. Both use a standard 5.56 lower.
The Grendel has .308 performance without the recoil or weight. The 6.8's effective range is a little shorter than the Grendel."Show me a young conservative and I'll show you a man without a heart. Show me an old liberal and I'll show you a man without a brain." - Sir Winston Churchill

X2. And being the OP is in Orange County, you can visit JDs manufacturing facilities in nearby San Diego. Very high quality builds coming out of there. You can buy their receivers & build as you go, or have your wish list ready & their in house gunsmith will build it for you. Here's my current JD build scheduled to be completed by early May-

MagPul MPLA
POF-USA P415-18-11T-223
TROY M7A1
& a bunch of SIG pistols and rifles

The LMTs are absolutely top notch. I am starting to think about getting one with the longer barrel and get it suppressed!www.tenpercentfirearms.com was open from 2005 until 2018. I now own Westside Arms.Comment

I am the proud owner of the LMT .308MWS thanks to the advice on this forum. I was on target at 100yards w/ factory iron sights on the first outing, right out of the box. Saving for the right scope right now.Comment

OK, no reading or heard, I've owned and tested both the LMT MWS and LWRC REPR 18", bot are well made guns, the REPR cost $700-$1000 more. With match loads, best REPR in solid rest with US OPTICS SN-3 will do MOA to 1.5 MOA, the MWS does SUb-MOA (closer to half but I'm not that good a shot, I'm more of a 3/4 MOA shooter).
Cannot comment on the OBR, but since the MWS is least expensive of the three, why pay more. Quality is top notch..Comment

I saw a guy shoot a 1 3/4 inch group with his MWS at 300 yards last week. The 20 inch chrome lined barrel. As soon as I get my tax refund, I'm getting one.

there is an article in this months american rifleman about how LMT won a british army contract. Not sure if it will sway your decision, but it was a good read.

The MWS offers more than just excellent accuracy. It's a feature-packed platform. Quick change barrels, monolithic upper receiver, ambi mag release, ambi selector, five QD attachment points and the ability to do both DMR and CQB without compromising either role. I have one as a range demo and love shooting it. Let me know if you decide to get one as I'm allocating rifles from my next shipment for customer pre-orders.Ty | 815.246.AR15 (2715) | info@midwestpx.com

As has been said already, the LMT MWS has many things going for it that some of the others don't. Mainly the ability to do quick barrel (caliber) changes. I have a MWS that came with the 16" chrome lined barrel and I purchased the 20" SS barrel. They are both fantastic and even with my less than stellar shooting abilities I have been able to get quite a few 5 shot groups just over .5" at 100 yards with the 20" and many sub MOA groups with the 16" barrel. Truly one of my favorite rifles!Comment

Sorry to op but I had the same ? But I was wondering is the lmt a lot heavier due to the quck change barrel setup? I would mostly use the weapon for hunting not target shooting so heavy is not goodComment
