    HK SL8-6

    Hello all,

Is this rifle worth the price? What are the pros and cons? Not a lot of info out there. Other than being extremely reliable, piston driven, carbon fiber, light recoil...these seem to be the pros. Cons are the price and magwell...anything else??

Unless you are and have the money to convert it to a G36, the asnwer is NO. The magazine is comes with is a POS and no one really buys one of these and leave it stock. They end up on the classfieds because buyer's find out the hard way it is not a good rifle stock and that converting it will cost much more than the price of the rifle itself and the parts are hard to find, lol. As most HK civilian stuff, they look cool, overpriced, and leaves a bad atste in your mouth, lol.

There's quite a few of them over here in New Zealand and most are running cans, but everyone I talk to seems to wish it was a .308 instead.

Meh-I'd say skip. I got to handle one at a gun shop. Felt awkward, and was way overpriced. For that much money, I'd go for an AR.

I can't think of one reason to own that odd rifle...... except for somebody who must have those two red letters.

I used to own one and sold it. Save up just a little more money and get a hk mr556 when the price comes down in several months.

I doubt this will go up in value, but I remember back in the day, looking at a SP-89 on the wall and thinking, "why would anyone want a $700 "handgun" that you can't hold like a normal handgun?"

I have one but don't shoot it much... would like to do the G36 conversion someday though.

My friend got one right after they became available. He sold it after about a year. It's a decent toy but the ergos are horrible. If you want a piston 5.56 I would look at a Sig or SCAR. Depending on how much you want to spend. I've shot the Sig and own a SCAR and both are a better overall rifle vs the H&K.

It's not bad, it will shoot 1" groups at a 100 yards pretty easily with a decent optic. But it is more of a bench rifle in it's original configuration.

For a bench rifle, I think it is pretty good. It is fairly distant from its AW brother as far as handling and balance. The gun is extremely front heavy. The thumb hole stock is a joke. Once converted it is really fun. honestly a pistol grip definately helps in the handling though still very front heavy. Definately a neat rifle but out of the box, there are better things out there to be had in the same price range. I have no regrets with mine before or after converting it. You do have to hack at the receiver which if you don't feel comfortable doing, this is not the gun for you. Even if you do the double stack mod, material has to be cut away.

But so can a Ruger 10/22

When converting a SL8-6 into a G36 clone, it doesn't look all that clean. Lots of gaps

I don't shoot mine as often as I would like to. I have to agree on what others have said. The thumbhole stock sucks. If and when I leave CA, I'll probably do the conversion.
Hope for the best, expect the worse... Does that make me an optimistic pessimist?!

Except that $700 "handgun" is now worth around $4 grand...
