Review: Cree Q5 LED 200 Lumens Drop-in Module

I don't do too many reviews but I found myself "needing" a weapon light. I was planning on buying a Surefire MiniScout but ended up finding a bargain on eBay. I found a Surefire M951XM07 for 108 shipped on eBay. The auction let the buyer know that not every P60 bulb is NOT guaranteed to last so I thought I'd throw in a drop in replacement. The light was scratched up, dirty, etc from "military use"... No batteries included. No worries!

Primary Arms has always had really good customer service and shipped things to me quickly when I needed them. I saw this replacement bulb on their website and for 20 bucks and figured I got nothing to lose. I also took the liberty to find a used tape switch for 30 bucks shipped (normally 69+ new from Surefire and other various retailers.) So all in all, this little project cost me $158.00 to my door. Anyways, below are some pictures of their comparison. Now if the LED ever breaks, I still have the stock bulb to throw in there. The LED runs cooler, brighter, and last longer. I don't want to scare my neighbors so I have only indoor shots of the light.

LED on the left, regular on the right.

LED on the left... I did NOT use the large spring. It would not fit. It even warns you in the sale it may not be necessary to use it.

    indoor shot with the LED...

    indoor shot with stock bulb...

mounted... tape switch didn't show up till later in the day... battlecomp pr0n at no extra cost

    thanks for looking

Not the right section for a weapon light review, buy very good start. Take the rifle to the range with the weaponlight and turn the light on and start firing some off. see if you can tell if the light is turning off. The large spring is for recoil absorption. without it , it is possible the recoil overpowers the little spring and disconnects it from the battery pack. This is why some EOTechs need new springs (old EOTechs with in-line batteries). It may take several hundreds (5 or 6) rounds too see a problem or you may never see it.

Good job on the pics, thats what people need to see. I was never a fan of LED until they started making them with a longer throw. Its nice to see a wide area of illumination, but I want distance too. Seems the CREE Q5 has distance.

Like I said, the major issue would be the removal of the recoil spring, but less face it...its a .223 LOL not like its an AK or Mosin. The problem is rare, but exist.
