Remove the trigger group to remove the original mag, not the John Mason mag.

Not legal on a SKS. This one will still detach when you pull back the mag release button. If you want a true fixed after-market mag, check out the Tapco 10rd fixed mag. It has an extra pin in the back, that holds it into the trigger group, so cannot be removed by manipulating the mag release. To remove it, you have to remove the whole trigger group.

Just wondering... If you can buy a mini 14 or a featureless Saiga and run a detachable 10 round mag, why is it illegal to put a detachable mag in a featureless sks? The Ad claims their product is 50 state legal...

Because "SKS w/ detachable magazine" is listed under the Roberti-Roos AW list (PC 12276), by name.

Only if it's an real SKS, as in Russian SKS. Does not apply to the SKS "clones" (i.e. Yugo M59, Chinese Type 56 carbine). Those are essentially like OLLs.

The question is, why would ANYONE even bother with those, when the factory fixed 10rd mag works perfectly fine and top loading it is easier and faster.

It would be legal on a standard SKS without any additional grips and any mods in regards to penal code 12276.1 (a)

Check the flowchart. Stay left as far as you can go and then go right at the detachable magazine question.

As for it's functionality, the mags for SKS's kinda suck regardless of manufacturer. Some don't fit well, misfeed, jam, and raise the brow of any LEO.

Go with stripper clips, much easier and faster to load, bolt locks open and a hell of a lot cheaper.

              Just my 2 cents.

Please check again, but this time check Appendix A: Roberti-Roos AW list.

That's right, another reason to go with the stripper clips.

                      OP doesnt mind :P

I like the clips, but its hard finding the motivation to load up 500 rounds of wolf onto clips...

WHat i forgot to mention was the reason i was lookin at an aftermarket mag.

The original mag looks...so...blah! The one i linked too would look 'military-esque' i guess you could say. Yeah, i admit, i kinda like the tactiCOOL look on it thus far :P
