Is there a purpose for a fake suppressor other than looks? If used to extend a short barrel so the rifle is not considered SBR, does it help in accuracy?

Most of the time, that's what it's used for. No, it does not improve accuracy. Most extended fake cans pinned and welded to short barrels will cause excessive flash. Then there's the sound amplification. You're basically attaching a drum to the end of your rifle.sigpic

In the case of the PS90 I'm buying it's there to make it 30" overall length per California's pathetic rules... So in this rare case a fake can is actually functional. lol
A fake can won't make a short barrel legal.. it can only help with the overall length of the rifle. Well, maybe it could if you welded it to the barrel that was under 16" long but what would be the point of that?Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Comment

Other than extending the OAL, I don't see any positive results from using a fake can, unless you don't mind attracting extra scrutiny from a LEO. I also wouldn't care for the extra added weight.Last edited by Crowesnest; 02-12-2011, 9:23 AM.Comment

1) Anything I can bring to verify that it is a fake suppressor on the rifle?
2) 6" fake suppressor weigh more less than 6" of barrel? Reason about this question is if I wanted a SBR style, the manufacturer will sell it to me with a 16" barrel, so SBR with 11" + 6" fake suppressor. Just an estimate on lengthComment

Question, actually 2 questions...

Still, I wouldn't run one if I didn't have to.. really no benefit.Originally posted by tony270It's easy to be a keyboard warrior, you would melt like wax in front of me, you wouldn't be able to move your lips.Comment

but when I hold my krink with 9" barrel and fake can
and then I hold someone else's krink with 16" barrel and fake can
the 16" krink is ALOT more front heavy and unbalancedComment

I used one on an upper for a featureless build, because I didnt want to use a muzzle brake and had already removed the flash hider. The Spikes Tactical one slips over the barrel, doesnt add any length and leaves the crown the last thing the bullet see's before it's free. Basically, the can just covers the threads...which is exactly what I wanted to accomplish.
