A few quick questions; is there a difference between removable carry handles for ARs in terms of height and compatibility? I know there are regular and F marked front sight bases. Is there one specific for rifle and carbines in terms of usage and adjustments on it? Does it matter which one I get? I am going to be using it on a m16a4 clone I am building, it has a bcm 20" upper on it. I should mention I am refering to a standard removable carry handle as opposed some of the fancier offerings out there.

That being said does this (below) look like a milspec unit? I know it says so in the title and I am not trying to discredit the seller at all as he has great feedback, however I prefer to be an informed buyer.

The individual selling is probably a great guy, but he may not really know what he has. He could have taken it off the parts gun.
(dim memory) - aside from sight height vs. "F"-marked front sight base, I seem to recall some carry handle rear sight assy's are designed for carbines, others for 20" rifles - different sight radius + increased rifle muzzle velocity => different knob calibration - and the rifle sight knob elevation adjustment probably runs out to a further range than the carbine. Some vendors may not tweak this, but I believe Colt does. (IIRC, the rifle sight knob goes to '8' (800y) and the carbine goes to '6' (600)...)
If you are doing serious shooting with iron sights it's prob best to buy the carry handle from the vendor that sold you the rifle/upper and then quiz them to make sure you have the right (rifle, not carbine) sight installed on it.Last edited by bwiese; 02-05-2011, 1:18 PM.

Interesting. I have a carry handle and a chpped A2 type rear sights. Both has the 6/3 mark dial so oviously its for 16" ARs. However, the chopped sight has up to 55 clicks up, not counting for the extra 7 clicks for the RIBZ setting. The carry handle on the other hand has only 27 up clicks, plus the 7 extra for RIBZ. I have tested the chopped sight and with the RIBZ setting it was in synch on the clicks needed up to 100 yards. Have'nt tried the carry handle sight yet so not sure how this one would work.Comment
