Stubby Pmag

So I know I can just buy these, but I had a 10/20 Pmag that would FTF on the ninth round every time, so I decided to chop it up.

I started with the 10/20, a new ranger plate and a Dremel



I first cut around the edges of the baseplate so I could pry it off. (epoxied, not pinned)



A few more sceonds with the dremel, and the mag body was in two.



This is where I slowed down a bit to be careful. I used a flat mill file to level the base and thin the reinforcement ring to the right thickness for the groove in the ranger plate. I also filed a notch for the end of the baseplate retainer.



After cleaning up the edges, I popped it together. It only cost me a $4 ranger plate and about 20 minutes total.

Just FYI but that mag likely holds 11-12 rounds. This is why when I make them, I have to put a block inside the mag and pin the baseplate. Also, if you compressed the full spring, you will continue to have feeding problems. The block that was in your 10/20 compressed the spring and the compressed spring is what causes feeding problems.

i have a stubby pmag, and the bottom lip of the ranger plate actually touches the magwell and is pushed into it slightly, Im pretty sure you just manufactured an Assault Weapon, good thing you took pictures to prove it!

I haven't tried loading it yet, and I was wondering why the ones you sell had to be pinned. Should I cut the spring in half, or a leave it a little longer than half?

I'm not sure who originally blocked this mag, it came with my rifle and it was replaced after the first time out.
