Front sight pins

What would cause the two pins that hold the front sight of an AR to work loose? I've got about 500 rounds through this rifle, and when I got home last night I noticed that the two pins that hold the front sight/gas block in place were both sticking out. I tapped them back in, but something tells me they aren't supposed to do that.

Perhaps they were never installed tight in the first place?

I have never heard of taper pins working out on their own.

So what would be the proper way to install them? I tapped them back into place. Should there be some Loktite on them?

Just tap them into place good and tight.
