    Rifle selection help

I am trying to decide on a first rifle and am thinking a .243 Remington 700 or a savage would be a good choice. I can't really figure out the whole twist rate part of it though. For the most part it will be for some target shooting until I can get some consistent accuracy and then I might go hunting.

    Any advice would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Corey.

Do a search we have hundreds of post on this. Keep in mind it is what is right for you, not others.

I know. That's why I made my own post. So people can ask what I want to use it for and it will help me make a better choice for what I need instead of reading what someone else decided on.

Ok how tall are you, weight, and what do you plan on hunting in the future. How is your eyesight, right, or left hand. All factors to consider.

What does height and weight change? Just curious

Hunting: deer, possibly elk, wild pig. my eyesight is fine, right handed.

I actually might just step up to a .308 since that is what I planned on working up to, but in the long run having to buy two guns would cost me a lot more.

Well Elk that means a minimum of .308win. Big Game Guns tend to get hefty and be a pain to handle in the brush. Still kicking my butt for selling my 16" Rossi 454 lever gun last year. Best brush gun I ever had.

It does not have to be expensive...two years ago a 17yr old kid pulled the biggest bull of the season with a $90 Russian Nagant Rifle.
