    M4 improvement program

Does anyone know which piston system/s is being purchased by the DoD as part of the M4 improvement program? Are they purchasing from one manufacturer or testing several different systems?

I think what the majority of our soldiers really need is a few more days on the firing range!

From that link, I don't see the point of having fully automatic M4s. I foresee a lot of praying and spraying and quickly running out of ammo. Not to mention there's already a platform for automatic 5.56 fire.

And I agree with ElvenSoul that some more range time and marksmanship training would go a long way.

I hear they're doing what the Special Forces did and are going with Vulcan.

These will be the next thing everyone needs. DI will be for ever looked down on and won't be good enough for the weekend range commando.

The best way to upgrade the M4 vermint gun is to switch to AK47.

There is no piston for this program.

It is the Med contour barrel that Colt is putting in. Remember they did a test where they mag dumped like 20 mags in a row and said "look the barrel droops and can cause a catastrophic malfunction, only we can solve this problem). No one dumps 600 rounds in 20 mag dumps, first off we only get issued 210 rounds. Second they just are desperate to get a contract. It is the same thing they did with the feed ramps, create a problem and propose a solution. This makes the weapon heavier and I don't want to do a 15k full ruck march with ANYTHING heavier.

Current M4's are burst capable and the 3 round burst has never been reliable. Sometimes its 2 rounds and sometimes its 1 depending on the sear. Full auto is much more reliable in the AR platform. This is a good change.
