    AR-15 30-Rounders

I was cleaning my garage when I found several 30-round STANAGs. They are all quite old - at least fifteen years. Since they were buried under mountains of junk in my garage, they are obviously mine. What is the legal status on these magazines?

I mean, after all, they are grandfathered articles, having been in CA well before the CA AWB and probably even before the federal AWB.

    Thanks for any answers.

You can use them in a registered AW AR or featureless AR, sell them disassembled as parts kits, or rebuild them into completely new mags.

But you can't use them in a Bullet Buttoned AR.

If I'm wrong or am missing something someone will jump right in.

Operators are standing by to help you use those old mags legally...

We also have PMAG rebuild kits in case those old mags are not up to snuff after being neglected in the garage for so long...

All right. Thanks for the quick responses.

They are still functional. Looking to upgrade them with some Magpul goodness in the near future though, namely new follower/spring sets and ranger plates.

Or you can just replace the entire mag for a new Pmag One for one.

Must you keep the old one for proof?

Someone at the range seeing you with a 1 for 1 replacement could very well look at it, the date on the body and say you "imported" or "assembled" it..?

I thought that was suspect as well. Some have advise that I hammer the original magazines hulls flat and keep them as proof. I think I'm going with the upgrade route and use the extra money I save to buy more ammo.

There is NO NEED to keep the old parts if you rebuild your existing Large Capacity mags. And replacing all of the parts with brand new PMag parts is no different than replacing them with brand new USGI metal mag parts.

Possession is legal. Don't worry about it.

Use in properly configured rifles is legal. Don't worry about it.

Possession of parts is legal. Don't worry about it.

The traitor is the plague."......Cicero

You are NOT required to keep the old parts... and whatever you do, don't keep the old one assembled and have the new ones.

that set up has a bayonet lug, isnt it an assault weapon with a bayonet lug and detachable magazine?

Read the flowchart and know it well. Bayonet lugs aren't restricted in any way in CA.

Only if you're in CT, MA, NJ or NY. In California you could have multiple bayonet lugs if you wish. They're harmless as kittens.
