Are all 62grn 5.56 ammo, green tipped steel core? I can't seem to find any that are just regular FMJ that isn't some ridiculously expensive match grade ammo.

    All that I've encountered.

I've seen 55 grain stuff for arouns $300.00 a K if that helps - check Gunbroker.
The way some gunshop clerks spout off, you'd think that they invented gunpowder and the repeating rifle, and sat on the Supreme Court as well.

There are a couple types, just look around.

Right now I'm shooting Mk318. A little expensive, but cool ammo.
Next best thing (for me) is 60gr. Hornaday.

Good stuff, but I'm hooked on the Hornady 75 grn. BTHP steel case "practice" ammo.

I have been thinking about picking some up, is it legit stuff? I usually shoot PMC or LC reloads.

I've got a case of Winchester 62 grain lead core. A few years ago, another calgunner told me that Winchester stopped production of it. But, when I bought it, it was only about $20/case more than Wolf.

There's also the American Tactical Imports SS109 (M855) and the IMI M855 versions. I haven't tried these myself, but would like to one of these days as I heard these weren't too bad.

That's exactly what the OP does NOT want.

The Hornady steel case ammo is great. Very accurate, clean burning, I've used it in all sorts of AR's.

Well I read he wanted "non green tip" steel core. My mistake.
