JC Higgins Model 50 30-06 Value?

Rifle has serial number 89xx, version 593.98, with original everything including the scope.

Approximately 95% condition. From what I have researched, it is worth $300 to $500, is this correct?

    Thanks for your help.

It will be worth what someone is willing to pay. I would say $300- $350 though a well made gun it is just to far out of date for most and for what it's worth most would rather have something new? I have many JC Higgins shotguns and would not part with them for what I may get. If your looking to sell place an add here in the firearms for sale thread.

Actually, I am thinking of buying from a relative. I want to offer a fair price.

Understood, if the scope is of period time then it's pretty much just a freebie, if you feel you really like this gun remember it maybe and is very likely hard to find parts for? should something break something to consider? though it may never break. If you are looking at these on G.B for comps most times the prices are higher than what they are really worth in hopes someone will buy? post a pic if you can

I have that exact same rifle. It was my grandpa's that he bought from Sears new in the 50's.

Just a heads up, you can't mount a new scope in the original rings. They were designed so that the scope has to be disassembled to remove it from the rings.

Has the rifle, stock or mounts been refinished?

I'd figure about $350.00 as being fair. Basically a commercial Mauser action with an old steel Weaver scope, both in nice shape. Looks like the Weaver is mounted low enough that it will not allow use of the standard safety.

No work has been done on the rifle. The rifle, stock, mounts, everything is original. It also has the original sling.

I was able to engage the standard safety with the scope as low as it is.

From what I can see, all this rifle needs is a good cleaning.

Wow thats a nice gun maybe $375 due to no checkering, most of these are not in this good of shape. I was not thinking Mauser at all.. depends what you think is fair?
