    Bipod for AR

I got a heavy barrelled AR which truned out to be remarkably accurate. So much so that initially I mounted a decent (3 - 12) scope as opposed to a red dot for short range stuff and I plan to add a bipod to use it for target as opposed to zombie shooting. I checked it out last night and it has a Free floating barrel on it. I contacted the original maker and he said it's a Rock river free floating handguard kit. Anyhoo, I want to fit a bipod but this free floating handguard doesn't seem to have anywhere to fit it to. the sling swivel is riveted. Is there a bipod which fits to the actual sling loop or do I need to pull this whole shebang off and put it back on WITH a bipod at the same time (I am assuming that a bipod fits to the handguard, or there wouldn't be much point in a free floating handguard right?)

What kind of free float handguard? Is it an aluminum tube or a sleeve that fits underneath your standard handguards?

Here, this one will work for either one: http://www.brownells.com/1/1/10781-a...ision-inc.html

If it's a free float tube, then you'll have to drill a hole in it. If it's a free float sleeve, then you can mount it through one of the existing vent holes in your lower handguard.

Well that's alot easier than I expected. It an A2 handguard. I'll have to check if it has vent hols vertically downwards. canm't say I've ever noticed that before actually.
          Thank you.

I have two Harris bipods, they mount on the sling swivel.

I have a Rock river with a free float tube and an LR .308 with a free float tube. I have a Harris bipod on both of them. They were designed to attach to the sling swivel, just like what you described.

Just to be clear, all AR have the barrel mounted the same way, the barrel is free floating if the handguard does not contact the barrel anywhere in front the barrel mounting nut. The classic M-16 is an example of a non-free floating barrel, as are the M-4s and most military AR pattern rifles. All Ar can be made into free floating barrels by simply removing the handguard or replacing it with a free float tube, like what you describe.

By the way my Rock River with a free float tube and 4-16 power scope is a well under MOA shooter. I use it exclusively for target shooting and it is great, though kind of heavy.

I don't think he has a free float tube, I'm pretty sure by his description that he has a free float sleeve. Exterior tubes and rail systems are not the only methods of free floating.

That rifle has a free floating barrel; I think OP's probably looks like that.
