I've got about $1300 in gun fund, don't know what to buy? I'm thinking DSA FAL, Springfield M1A, or an Arsenal AK and lots of ammo. Input please.
Buying a safe and sane firework is like paying a hooker for a hug. I do not see the appeal in it.

Get a Ruger 10/22, an extra barrel, and a three year supply of ammo.

What do you already have so we don't suggest that?

            dsa fal

I have the Dsa with an 18" barrel. Great all around rifle. Hunt with it, accurate enough to be interesting, and using Dsa's website you can build it to whatever you like. Add on the whole "Right arm of the free world thing" and you have a winner.

^ nah, I'm living prof that that same setup works. I have one. Put 1500 rounds thru it within the 3-4 weeks I have it and it shoots just as good as any of my other AR's. Gotta better trigger too! Lol.

If I already had an AR Id probable go with a Saiga converted and tons of ammo.

308 can be expensive to shoot on a regular basis unless you reload and the x39 is plenty to hunt med game with short to mid range if you needed to.

Had an M1A and sold it. It was a nice rifle but unless you pay for an expensive after market stock adding an optic can be a PITA and a bit uncomfortable to shoot ergonomically compared to a bolt action or AR pattern.

I dont have any experience with the FAL type guns although they have a nice look to them.

If I had to get a 308, it would be an AR-10 pattern rifle.

If you don't have an AK already, I would go that route. I love my AK to death, plus ammo costs are low, which is a huge factor for me. When I take it to the desert I don't put much thought into how much it is costing me to shoot it, whereas if I am shooting a .308 I can't help but imagine $1 bills deducting from my bank account with each trigger pull

Id go for the M1A. Always wanted one of those and later you can get one of those sweet JAE stocks

You need the cardinal pair, ar and ak. After that, then look elsewhere, which is what I'm doing now.

I've got a nice Colt AR, have two good precision bolt rifles, and a lot of curio and relic WWII era bolt guns. I have two nice 22's so not really in the market. I guess it started with looking at a PTR 91, thoiught it looked like a quality rifle, then figured if I'm going to spend PTR 91 money might as well throw in a little more for a DSA or Springfield.

yeah but you can't put an aluminum AR in a fire to create smoke signals...
