Will this handguard work for me?

I'm looking to freefloat my AR without breaking the bank so I'm looking to purchase this handguard. http://yankeehillmachine.com/store/product631.html

There is a cutout for the front sight but they show a foldable front sight. Will this still work with an A frame front sight or is it really just intended for folding sights? Thanks in advance.

According to YHM their products are made to mil-spec standard, therefore it should work. But to be sure and to saved yourself some possible headaches why dont you email them? tech@yhm.net

It works fine with a standard front sight, although it's not the easiest rail to install.

I could be wrong but it looks like you would need to remove your barrel in order to get it installed? It is not a split design.

Midwest Industries (inexpensive) and Troy Industries (a tad more expensive) both make handguards that are two halves that bolt together to form a free-floating forend. All you need to do is remove your delta ring, and AR15.com has tutorial on how to do that without messing up your upper. They are both just as good if not better quality wise to YHM (fanboys of the specific brands might argue one way or the other but most others would say they stack up well).

Both brands make versions that extend beyond and even wrap around the front sight post.

Would this one be easier to install?

I like the other one better because it has the anti-rotation screws to hold in there. But I'd like to do this myself and if the other is hard I don't know how I would do with it. I understand that with most freefloats I have to remove the sight and am prepared and fine with doing that. My primary concern is that the first one I showed seems like it goes around the sight so I don't know how I'd put the pins back in.

What I want to do with this is to have an accurate AR without breaking the bank so I want to freefloat the handguard. I'm not in need of rails everywhere but it would be nice to have the option. I like the smooth grip for hunting.

The YHM-94/30/31/32A is a one piece tube design, you will need to removed the front sight in order to slide the tube over the barrel. The YHM-9840 carbine length or YHM-9842 rifle length is a two piece non free float version.
