    Pinning/Welding a BattleComp

Hi guys. I have a 14.5 BCM upper with a pinned/welded BCM A2X Flash hider. I decided I want to make this rifle featureless, so I wanted to pull the A2X and replace it with a BattleComp 1.5, which I've heard is one of the "milder blast and dimmer flash" muzzle brakes. The mild report and dim flash is important because I want to use this upper on my HD carbine (decided I was better off with a weird grip and 30 rds for HD than with a BB).

Anyways, the BCM work was perfect, and I want the Battlecomp to be pinned and welded with the same perfect craftsmanship. I've heard horror stories of crappily done muzzle devices. Does anyone know of a gunsmith in the Greater LA area who could do good work for me? Should I just mail the thing back to BCM? Thanks in advance for your advice and opinions.

Riflegear pinned/welded my roommates Battlecomp on his 14.5 BCM upper.

Even though I am not a fan of 14.5 pinned/welded set ups (I'll be damned if I spend 100+ on my sjc titan and then drill and weld it)...I gotta say, the work they did was flawless imo.

They have a fast turn around time too. Usually no more than 24 hours in you get it in there early.

      +1 for Riflegear.
Brian works after hours pinning comps, so you can probably drop it off on Friday afternoon and pick it up Saturday.
They are closed Sunday, but they are open until 7 weekdays.

If riflegear is far for you like it is for me, try Addax.

Because the BattleComp does indeed reduce the flash signature it is a risky choice to put on a truely featureless build. A search will reveal previous discussion on this. I know the odds of my, or others, input changing your decision is unlikely but just be aware. Especially if your intent is to use this as a defensive weapon.

I'd definitely watch out putting the 1.5 on a featureless build. Mostly because of how they went about designing the extension to make it 1.5 inches long. Basically they took a 1.0 and then extended a lip of sorts .5 past the end of the 1.0 but did not close this extension up to have a hole the same size as the bullet meaning you functionally have a flash hider like exit hole on the device. Even I think it is a little too risky, and I'm in the camp that says the BC 1.0 is probably a-okay on featureless builds.

            Tread carefully.

Thanks for the advice, it looks like Addax is considerably closer than Riflegear and I'm assuming they are also capable of great work.

Spdrcr, Pebkac...good looking out. Legality does play a big role in this for me...if not I'd just run a totally illegal AW and say to hell with it; after all why sacrifice the collapsible stock and pistol grip if the muzzle device is felonious anyway?

Is there a legal comp that would meet my original criteria? Flash dampening is nice but meh....the real key for me is the reduced muzzle blast. My only other comp experience is a PWS 556, and I would not be pleased touching that thing off indoors. I know, I know "why would you worry about your hearing if you are in a gunfight", but my plan for the worst case scenario is to end the threat, keep (most of) my hearing and stay out of prison. I'd rather just run a 16" with a thread protector than a comp that will magnify blast.

If you want a comp that doesn't blow gas/sound back to you and your fellow shooters your only option would be a linear comp. These direct the sound/gas forward toward the target. There is the levang linear comp and the troy claymore (same thing just meaner looking). I went with claymore for my featureless. I don't think it is quite as effective as the fsc556, but the sound and blast are similar to a standard A2 flashider which is a huge plus. On my next build I am doing 16" barrel with bc 1.0 to see how that fares.
