    saiga questions

Im thinking of doing a front end conversion on my saiga, and the last gunshop i went to was telling me about 922 compliance. Now I dont want to do the full conversion with the pistol grip and all that, I kind of like the rifle stock on it, and it being featureless to not use a mag lock. So my question is can I add a bayonet lug and will it still be featureless? The AW flowchart led me to believe i was in the clear. And what parts will I need to buy to make this 922 compliant?

Bayonet lugs and threaded barrels are prohibited import features. Fine for CA.

A MB is not a CA AW feature.

If you can count you can keep your rifle compliant. Not that hard.
There are 14 parts on a saiga that are effected by 922r. If you add a pistol grip and comp that adds 2 parts for a total of 16. Add a US buttstock, pistol grip, fcg (3) and upper and lower handguard for a total of 10 foreign parts and your gtg.

OP only wants the front done, he's gonna need to use the mag for parts it is runs any muzzle device or hi cap mags. He's limited himself to only the piston and handguard if the front is all that's done.

Ok sounds like if I use a US made mag, hanguards, and piston I should be set.

Sorry miss read the OP. Wasn't trying to sound condescending either

How many parts do us mags count as?

SJgunguy, parts are almost here. Looking forward to getting my Saiga back after you get done with my front end conversion.

Sorry about noob question, but getting my Saiga tomorrow (rifle noob).

Do any of you have any pics of a front conversion?

I've been thinking the same thing. I think... Basically make the front look AK'ish - where you can see the gas tube...

But w/o the gun in front of me, I'm just blowing steam..

Yes, the handguards only count as 1, as does the piston. You'll need to use Surefire or another US mag to stay compliant.
I will say this now, when you shoot a converted Saiga, your going to convert yours. I tell that to everybody and they always do the conversion later and tell me I was right. It's night and day when you squeeze the trigger.

from what i have read on the saiga-12 forums , it is the hicap magazine that triggers 922r not the furniture that makes it "nonsporting".
