    Some question about barrel length

my question is .. what is the difference between 14.7 pinned to 16" ( to make it legal ) vs regular 16" upper ?

im in market for new or used upper , been seeing few 14.7 pinned to 16" on sale section . are there good reason to go with 14.7 and pinned to 16" vs reg 16" ?

just wanted to get some pros n cons if there any

    thanks

Pinned = overall barrel is TOTAL 16" with the pinned muzzle device

Regular 16" = barrel is longer at 16". Add a muzzle device of your choice and it'll be TOTAL 17" to 18"+ depending on what you choose. Shortest is an A2 flash hider, and that will add 1.25" for total of 17.25".

so , some will choose to go with 14.7 pinned to save length . i just thought there might be something else that im missing ..

i guess its okay to buy pinned upper as well =)

The downside to a 14.5"/14.7" barrel is that once you permanently pin a muzzle device to a barrel, making certain changes and modifications to your upper can be both a hassle and expensive.

Yes, it's mainly to save length and have the shortest upper legally.

Pinned is fine if you forsee yourself leaving it as is and not making any major changes. You get a handy and nimble setup.

So there is no change in accuracy or range?

Not an appreciable one. 1.5" is not much of a difference--sure if you put the two side-by-side you can see it, but in practical use it won't affect much of anything.

If accuracy or range were your primary concern, you would be looking at longer barrels
