    Carbine Classes

Has anyone taken a Tactical Carbine class in Southern California? If so where did you take it and what company instructed it and would you recommend it? I imagine the laws with the bullet buttons and no hi-cap mags are still in effect with these classes?

    Thanks,
    Sean

Its up to a club to host the trainers. In the Larry Vickers thread someone posted they are hosting him next year. I have seen Magpul hosted here. Normally you contact them and fly to where they are going. A class normally cost about $800-$1500..and more after all. A hundred bucks in a plane ticket and a hundred bucks for a rental car is nothing compared to the overall cost of the 3 day training.

People at the Magpul class did use magazine locks.

CA laws are applicable to training courses hosted in CA. I would check the Training subforum on this site as well as any other forums that have training announcements. Some instructors are more OLL friendly than others, you just have to ask them.

How do you do a class with a BB?
How would you practice reloads ?
Do they just skip that part? lol
        Or do they rent featureless?

I've always wondered about the BB and classes...maybe they teach a 'Tactical CA mag change'!

Yea instead if firing your last round, you extract it, catch it, and use it to drop the mag...lol

I'm making an assumption here, but wouldn't you use a rifle set up the same as the one you want to use, or the one you will use for SHTF (whatever that may be) or gaming? You might want to figure how to reload before going or go featureless.

                1. If you take a BB build to the class, then you'll have to practice your reloads. I've had BB rifles in every carbine class that I've attended. They use either the bullet lanyard or the GPik. It didn't seem to slow them down any, except for large round count evolutions.

                2. Some classes have and will rent RAWs to you during the class. USTC (formerly Blackwater) comes to mind.

                3. I prefer featureless builds for classes and pretty much everything else.

Then whats the point of the class, that one of the main things they teach.

You just use your tool to drop your mag.

Yes you will be slow until you get the hang of it and find a setup for your tool that works for you. I like the g-pik.

Otherwise go featureless and use the standard mag release with 10/20s, 10/30s, or pre-ban hi-caps if you have them.

I take classes out of state at Front Sight near Vegas. Might not be the best but you learn the basics and you can get a certificate for cheap.
